The planning process

Due to its electricity generating capacity, Clean Air Solar Farm is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP).

The Planning Act 2008 defines the planning process for NSIPs and requires that we apply for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to build, operate and decommission Clean Air Solar Farm. Unlike planning applications, which are determined by local authorities, NSIPs are submitted to and decided at the national level – namely by the responsible Government Minister (‘Secretary of State’).

You can find out more about the process of applying for a DCO on the National Infrastructure Planning website.

Public consultation forms an important part of the pre-application process for NSIPs. Ongoing local engagement will serve to inform and influence the development of our proposals. Local residents, stakeholders and businesses all have a vital role to play.

Community Benefit Fund

Pre-application community benefit fund

We have established an annual community benefit fund for the project’s pre-application phase, managed by local charity Two Ridings Community Foundation.

The fund has been created to support local people and community projects in and near Beverley. The fund awards micro grants to voluntary organisations, community groups and small charities working to improve everyday life.

Whether that’s through boosting health and wellbeing, creating welcoming community spaces, supporting local activities, championing local wildlife or helping community buildings become more environmentally sustainable, the Two Ridings Community Foundation will ensure the Clean Air Solar Farm Community Benefit Fund awards grants to projects which matter to residents and can make a real, positive difference.

The first round of the Clean Air Solar Farm Community Benefit Fund offered grants of up to £1,500 from a total funding pot of £10,000. Applications for this round have now closed.

Further information about the fund, including the Area of Benefit map and grant guidance, is available on the Two Ridings Community Foundation website.

Longer term community benefit fund

Should the project receive a successful planning consent, then a longer-term community benefit fund will be established which will last the lifespan of the project. Over its lifetime, we hope that this ongoing investment into the community will provide significant benefits locally.
